Starbucks Building
SEATTLE, WA
Supported the city of Seattle in an alliance with Reid Middleton, Inc. in providing earthquake recovery and response following the 2001 Nisqually Earthquake. The Starbucks Building was one of many structures that required earthquake damage repair. Most of the damage occurred to unreinforced brick masonry (URM) buildings in historic Pioneer Square and the surrounding SODO and International Districts, but single-family homes were also affected, primarily due to partial collapse of URM chimneys. Performed ATC-20 Post-Earthquake Safety Evaluations and assisted with the response and subsequent recovery efforts. Assisted in managing projects, expedited plan reviews, and issued Hazardous Correction Orders and Notices of Violation as part of the Emergency Permitting Team. Approximately 1,500 buildings were visited which resulted in 31 red tags and 500 yellow tags with a preliminary damage estimate in excess of $200 million.
